What is an Apprenticeship?

  • Chef Apprenticeship – Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery

Cooks and chefs prepare and present food. They work in a variety of places including hotels, restaurants, cafes, hospitals and catering businesses. As an apprentice chef, you will probably be required to do shift work or "split shifts", weekends and public holidays. Apprenticeships generally last three years and employment prospects are excellent within Australia and overseas.

  • Baking / Pastry Cooking Apprenticeship – Certificate 3 in Retail, Baking, Cake & Pastry

Bakers or Pastry Chefs prepare and bake various bread and pastry products as well as mixing, baking, filling, icing and decorating all kinds of cakes and pastries. They work in bakeries, bread shops, cake shops, patisseries and hotels. This apprenticeship combines baking and pastry cooking and lasts three years. Employment prospects are excellent within Australia and overseas.

 

 

What is a Traineeship?

As a trainee you can gain a Certificate II, III or IV in Hospitality

 

What does each area cover?

  • Food Service - preparing tables, taking orders, serving food
  • Beverage Service - taking orders, handling and serving beverages
  • Kitchen Service - preparing food and basic cooking
  • Hotel Front Office - reception, reservations, book keeping and telephones
  • Housekeeping - guest service, cleaning, preparing and stocking rooms
