An apprenticeship is a structured program which leads to a nationally recognised trade qualification. Apprenticeships generally last three years and combine on and off-the-job training. One day per week is spent at a training college and the rest of the time is spent in paid employment on-the-job.

HGT offers the following apprenticeships:

Cooking Apprenticeship

Cooking ApprenticeshipCooks and chefs prepare and present food. They work in a variety of places including hotels, restaurants, cafes, hospitals and catering businesses. As an apprentice cook, you will probably be required to do shift work or "split shifts", weekends and public holidays. Apprenticeships generally last three years and employment prospects are very good within Australia and overseas.

Baking / Pastry Cooking Apprenticeship

Baking ApprenticeshipBakers or Pastry Chefs prepare and bake various bread and pastry products as well as mixing, baking, filling, icing and decorating all kinds of cakes and pastries. They work in bakeries, bread shops, cake shops, patisseries and hotels. This apprenticeship combines baking and pastry cooking and lasts three years. Employment prospects are very good within Australia and overseas.
