2018 HGT Taste of the Future Schools Cooking Competition

On Thursday 22nd June 2018 seven high school students battled it out in the kitchen in a Master Chef style cook-off for a chance to win the HGT Taste of the Future Schools Cooking Competition. With our three judges Stephen Clarke - owner Clarke's of North Beach, Paul Beard - Executive Chef of Perth Arena and Don Hancey - WA Food Ambassador walking the floor the students handled the pressure like true pros (no reality TV drama in sight!). 

The Competition is open to all Year 11 and Year 12 students throughout Western Australia, each school can enter only one student to represent their school. Now in its 6th Year the competition has seen some extremely talented individuals competing for the title and this year Maddison Buckley from Swan Christian College took the crown with her Harissa Bronze Whaler Shark, served with Lemon Mayonnaise and Herb Oil.

 

 

The Prize

Maddison wins a Chef Apprenticeship position with Hospitality Group Training once she finishes school and all Training College fees covered for 3 years by competition major sponsor Oil2U, valued at $5,500. Maddison also won a cash prize for 1st place along with the other top 5 finalists.
