A School Based Traineeship is a unique opportunity for Year 11 & 12 Students to begin preparing themselves for a career in the workforce while still at High School.

The traineeship allows students who are studying towards a Certificate of Education and Year 12 Graduation to also receive on-the-job training in an industry area gaining a nationally recognised vocational education and training qualification.

Hospitality Group Training in partnership with schools, students and local businesses provide valuable expertise, knowledge and coordination of traineeships to ensure a brighter future for our youth, industry and the wider community.

Hospitality Group Training school based trainees can specialise in one or more of the following areas:

Food Service - preparing tables, taking orders, serving food
Beverage Service - taking orders, handling and serving beverages
Kitchen Service - preparing food and basic cooking

Hospitality Group Training Nationally Accredited training outcomes and qualifications for school based traineeships include:

  • Certificate 2 Hospitality (Operations) VET School Based Traineeship

How does it work?
Students are enrolled full-time at school and they work part-time with a host employer.

A school based trainee combines two days a week in paid work with three days a week at school. Trainees are required to work a minimum of 8 hours per week in the workplace, through the 1 to 2 year duration of the traineeship.

Students are paid the National Training Wage Award for the duration of the program.

School Based Apprenticeship
Year 11 students have the opportunity to commence a school-based apprenticeship and begin their cooking career – whilst staying at school!  Subject to competency it is intended that they will continue their apprenticeship full time as a second year when they graduate high school!

 How does it work?

  • 1 day (minimum) per week on the job.
  • 1 day a week @ TAFE
  • 3 days at school.
  • Paid as a 1st Year Apprentice.
