HGT Apprentice Chef Lara Kirby and former HGT Apprentice Hudson Stokes joined up to compete in the Nestle Golden Chefs Hat Awards 2017. Lara and Hudson took home a gold medal and were named overall winners in the regional finals, held at North Metropolitan TAFE yesterday. Lara and Hudson will be jetting off to Sydney in September to represent Western Australia and compete against their peers from the other states for the top prize of a culinary experience to Vietnam, valued at $15,000. 

Lara and Hudson both placed at Sandalford Winery have worked together for the last two weeks designing and practicing their dish of Pistachio Crumbed Saddle of Lamb with Lamb & Mushroom Tortellini, Green Beans, Pickled Squash & Carrot with Vanilla Carrot Puree and Garlic Tuile. Dessert was Strawberry & White Chocolate Semifreddo, Caramel Filled Profiteroles with Orange Marshmallows & Chocolate Ganache

Lara is currently a 2nd Year Apprentice Chef with Hospitality Group Training hosted by Sandalford Winery and Hudson Stokes a former HGT Apprentice Chef completed his apprenticeship in 2014. Both Lara and Hudson have real drive and passion to succeed in the culinary industry and this fantastic accolade is credit to their hard work and determination. 

Also competing in the competition was HGT Apprentice Chef Dayna-Mae Motu who was awarded a silver medal. The Nestle Golden Chefs Hat was Dayna's first competition and her silver medal is a huge achievement for a first time competition entrant. Dayna is currently hosted by The Breakwater working in the award winning Ishka Restaurant. 

Former HGT Apprentice Chef Cherise Davids was also a competitor yesterday. Cherise finished her apprenticeship in 2013 while hosted by The Royal on the Waterfront, now working at Hurricane Bar and Grill. Cherise and her team mate Angela were awarded a silver medal for their efforts. 

The Nestle Gold Chefs Hat Competition is Australia's longest running culinary competition, dedicated to helping junior and apprentice chefs develop their cooking skills and broaden their culinary horizons. We are extremely proud of our apprentices, past and present for putting themselves forward for the competition. All while working in full-time positions to compete against their peers to represent Western Australia.
